Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS)

AFMC works to increase participation in the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) and improve the use of electronic health records (EHR) for care management. We support eligible professionals in submitting data for PQRS using qualified EHR-based reporting.

Quality Reporting Goal

Improve patient safety, quality and population health by EHR-based reporting on at least three of the following PQRS measures:

  • Influenza immunizations for patients 50 years or older
  • Pneumonia vaccination for patients 65 years or older
  • Screening mammography for appropriate patients
  • Colorectal cancer screening for appropriate patients
  • Tobacco use – screening and cessation intervention
  • Blood pressure measurement

*The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) may modify this list after the 2012 PQRS measures are announced.

AFMC encourages practices with qualified EHRs to participate in PQRS using EHR-based reporting. Learn more about PQRS, including how to get started, who is eligible and which EHR products are qualified for reporting, at http://www.cms.gov/pqrs/.

Assistance to help eligible professionals qualify for incentives

We support eligible professionals on many levels. A hybrid approach including technical assistance and large-scale information sharing helps practices successfully submit PQRS quality measures through direct EHR reporting for program year 2012.

AFMC Quality Specialists assist with the following:

  • Data submission for PQRS using EHR-based reporting in accordance with current year requirement on above PQRS measures
  • Using EHRs to produce quarterly reports for office and quality improvement tracking to show rates with numerators and denominators for each measure
  • Interpreting EHR data and reporting to identify and address disparities in care
  • Education and support in setting up sustainable quality improvement tools and programs
